April Smitley is a professional genealogist with a background in library science, history, and object research, specializing in research assistance and genetic genealogy.
April Smitley grew up in San Diego County and had an interest in research and history from a young age, originally scouring encyclopedias and the local public libraries to find the answers to her questions. Her longstanding interest in genealogy began as a child when she learned that her great grandmother was the daughter of Swiss immigrants and did not learn English until she started school at eight years old. From there, genealogy became a hobby that quickly turned into more when she decided to standardize her skills and learn from experts in genealogy coursework and institutes.
After completing Library Information Technology coursework, April Smitley began her Library career as the sole library professional at a museum art library. As a library professional, April Smitley managed all areas of the Library, including technical services, operations, reference support, processing, archives management, and resource location. Some of her regular patron types included specialized researchers and institutions, private investigators, and curious inquirers.
Over the years, April Smitley has worked for a variety of employers including and not limited to a state historic park, art museum, historical society, public library, and private investigation company.
